David Warner has issued a desperate plea for the return of his treasured ‘Baggy Green’ caps after a backpack featuring the prized possessions went missing in transit from Melbourne.
The champion opener, who will retire from the Test arena at the completion of the SCG Test against Pakistan beginning tomorrow, is shattered to discover the loss of the Australian cap.
The backpack was placed inside a bigger Australian cricket bag which was transported to Sydney after the nation secured the Benaud Qadir Trophy during the Boxing Day Test.

“Unfortunately this is my last resort, to do this,” Warner said in a post on Instagram, revealing he has reviewed CCTV footage of the team hotel and Qantas without luck.
“Unfortunately someone has taken my backpack out of my actual luggage, which had my backpack and my girls’ presents in there. Inside this backpack was my baggy greens.
“That’s sentimental to me, it’s something I would love to have back in my hands, walking out there come this week.
“If it’s the backpack you really wanted, I have a spare one here. You won’t get into any trouble… I’m happy to give this to you if you return my baggy greens.”
Pakistan captain Shan Masood spoke to reporters on Tuesday and called for a ‘country-wide search’ for the missing caps.
“There should be a country-wide search right now from the Australian Government. We might need the best of detectives to get that back,” he said.
“He’s been a great ambassador, and he deserves every bit of respect, every bit of celebration for his unbelievable career.”
He added: “I hope they find it. It’s the most precious thing for any cricketer, and I hope David Warner gets it back.”
The 37-year-old, who announced his retirement from ODI cricket at the SCG on Monday, is hopeful that the backpack which was carrying the two “Baggy Green” caps will be returned.
Ahead of the SCG “Pink” Test, Warner was part of a promotion for the Jane McGrath Foundation and wore the pink cap and associated garb to a photographic shoot on Monday.
Warner will join the Fox Cricket commentary team at the completion of his Test and ODI career.
Should the backpack or “Baggy Green” caps be discovered, they can be returned to Fox Sports headquarters in Artarmon, Sydney.
