Kurtis Patterson smashed one effortless six in his 12 off 11 balls, before he was caught going for a second by Sam Fanning in the deep to give Cooper Connolly his first scalp.

Steve Smith returns for the Sydney Sixers for their clash with the Perth Scorchers at the SCG in Match 30 of BBL 14.

The Perth Scorchers won the bat flip and elected to bowl first.

Smith, who fell agonisingly short of 10,000 runs at the same venue during Australia’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph, is set to feature in the first of his three-game stint for the Sixers before jetting to Sri Lanka at the end of the month.

The 34-year-old averages 41.04 in the competition, having hit seven fifties and two tons in his 31 games, with his returning compensating for the departure of English opener, James Vince, who played his final game of the season on Thursday against the Stars.

Joining Smith on Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka is Perth Scorchers young gun Cooper Connolly. The 21-year-old, who has already been capped by Australia in both T20Is and ODIs, has impressed in this year’s Big Bash, with his 272 runs the second-highest of any batsman this season.
