Ms Elvinger, endorsed in a secret vote with 530 votes in favour, 41 against and 70 abstentions, has served as a Member of the European Court of Auditors (ECA) since 2020. Prior to that, she was a lawyer and politician in Luxembourg.
Mr Blok, who has held several ministerial positions in the Netherlands, has been a Member of the ECA since 2022. His nomination was supported by 462 votes to 129 with 25 abstentions.
The two candidates’ nominations had secured favourable opinions from the Budgetary Control Committee on 15 July 2025, following hearings earlier the same day.
Next steps
The final decision will be taken by EU member states in the Council.
Background
As stipulated in the EU Treaty, each member state proposes one candidate to serve on the ECA. The Council of the EU, after consulting the European Parliament, adopts the list of members for a six-year term.
