The Knights have been handed a mammoth boost, with the NRL giving prodigy Kingston Seve permission to train with the first grade squad.
Dubbed Newcastle’s version of former Roosters gun Joseph Suaalii, the 17-year-old is a dangerous outside back who was courted by both NRL rivals and union clubs.
Seve signed a four-year contract to make the move from the Hunter from the Dolphins, all while still attending Hunter Sports High.

But leading into the 2026 pre-season, the teenage gun was unable to train with the Knights first grade squad with NRL rules stating players cannot play until their 18th birthday.
The rules state players must be 17 on November 1 the year they are signed to train, and Seve turned 17 on November 29 which saw him ineligible to take part in Justin Holbrook’s pre-season.
Newcastle powerbrokers then applied for dispensation for Seve in November, which has since been granted according to Code Sports, and the young gun will begin training in January.
Seve will reportedly begin his time at the club in the SG Ball competition, before graduating to NSW Cup.

Since tightening their restrictions, the NRL have also only given one player permission to debut before their 18th birthday — Joseph Suaalii.
However, it is unlikely Seve will play first grade this season and the Knights have not requested that permission as it stands.
Instead, Seve could be eyeing an NRL debut in 2027 after he finishes his schooling.
