Veteran forward Josh King has opened up on Melbourne’s six-game losing streak, revealing he is “partially embarrassed, especially with the reputation the Storm has”.

King, and the Storm squad as a whole, have owned their embarrassment but remain confident that the key to turning their form around is sticking to their current system.
Most recently, they suffered a 48-6 loss to the South Sydney Rabbitohs, to which King said “a simple one-on-one miss or a system error is hurting as at the minute”.
“It’s harsh to put the results on one individual, or one area of the field… it’s a whole team thing,” he added.
The club’s long-standing reputation has made on field frustrations and a visibly unhappy coach hard to navigate, with King admitting the club have fallen short of expectations.
Instead of reinventing, the club have placed a heavy focus on doubling down on what they know, not reinforcing change.
“We don’t need to go searching for the answers,” King said.
“A few losses can make you lose belief… but as a team we’ve trained the best we have in the last two years. We have all the ingredients to turn it around.”
Injuries have further tested Melbourne, with winger Xavier Coates sidelined early in the season. Coates leaves a noticeable absence in defence without a consistent right-hand presence on the edge.

Tyran Wishart further echoed King, acknowledging the continued set of losses caused the team to lose momentum. The five-eighth also said the team was lacking confidence, adding “we just need to be better at the start – it flows so much easier from there.”
However, he like King maintained “we have full belief in our team and coaching staff.”
Amid rising pressures to change in form, the team remains adamant a restructure is not in their immediate plans; instead, execution is the priority.
“We’re just doubling down on our foundations – hard work and effort,” King added.
Leaning on the foundations of their past success, Melbourne remain aligned in their approach – restoring belief.
