Amid the Bulldogs’ dire recent run of form, there are several burning questions around the club with dispute over Galvin’s best position a recurring theme dating back to last season.
Journalist Brent Read has been steadfast in his belief that Galvin should remain at halfback but following the Bulldogs’ sixth loss in seven games, The Daily Telegraph’s Dean Ritchie took Read to task on NRL360, leading to a fiery debate between the pair.
Ritchie: It seems that everyone around the league thinks he’s the perfect six except you. Why are you so stubborn in saying that he’s a seven only?
Read: I’m not saying he’s a seven only but right now they’ve made that decision. He could be a really good seven but he’s not the issue with that footy club.
Ritchie: He’s the playmaker and they’re not winning so he’s got to be part of the issue.
Read: Nathan Cleary wouldn’t win games on his own. Stick him in the Dragons and see how they go. They wouldn’t win many games.
Galvin was brought to the club midway through last season in what was one of the stories of 2025.
He’s played 24 games for the Dogs, starting at halfback in all but five of those, with the club believing he’s their No. 7 of the future.
Many around the league though are of the opinion that the young playmaker is better suited with the six on his back.
For what it’s worth, the Bulldogs are 8/19 when Galvin starts at halfback.

Despite the club’s on-field struggles, Read still believes the Bulldogs need to keep Galvin where he is.
“Right now at this point of his career, he’s a better six but the goal is to make him a good halfback and obviously Cameron Ciraldo thinks he can be a great halfback,” Read said.
“In the meantime, their season is slipping away. He’s the playmaker, and if he’s not doing his job, that’s why they’re so poor in attack,” Ritchie responded.
Galvin has been one of the Bulldogs’ better players at times during their rough patch which Read noted.
He says it’s unfair that much of the focus is on Galvin and that criticism needs to be levelled at some of the playmaker’s teammates, particularly fullback Connor Tracey.
“It’s not just on him. Why do we point the finger at him every week,” Read said.
“What about everyone around him? Did you watch that game? What about Connor Tracey. He was poor, why don’t we talk about him?
“Every elite team has an elite fullback. They don’t so why don’t we point the finger at him. Why don’t we talk about Bailey Hayward taking two runs in about two weeks.
“He’s not an elite fullback. I think we can all agree on that.”
