‘Halfway through a beer’: Finch, Vaughan reveal hilarious meetings with Mick Jagger

Australian star Aaron Finch and Fox Cricket’s Mark Howard revealed a nervous meeting with music great Mick Jagger during the recent World Cup in India, while England legend Michael Vaughan opened up on his own hilarious interaction with Jagger at a party this year.

Asked about meeting the Rolling Stones frontman, Finch told Fox Cricket: “I did actually, Howie convinced me after a little bit of courage was needed. He basically had his hands in my back pushing me in there.”

Asked for more details, Finch added said: “It was brilliant. He (Jagger) was having dinner at a restaurant at the hotel we were staying at. Howie and I were lucky enough to be in there.”

Howard said: “He’s being a bit modest, Aaron. You’ve seen him do some courageous, courageous things on the cricket ground.

“Mick’s a big cricket fan. I tested Finchy for a good half an hour (saying): ‘You have to go in there, and try and introduce us.’”

Adam Gilchrist interjected: “Introduce us? So you were keen!”

Howard replied: “I was right on the coat-tails (of Aaron)! Finchy kept saying ‘no, no, no.’ Middle of nowhere, might have been halfway through a beer, he got up and said ‘I’m doing it!’ And we bailed in there.”

Finch intervened: “At a hundred miles an hour too, weren’t we!”

Howard added: “We were introduced to the great man. I still think, Aaron, it’s the most courageous thing I’ve ever seen you do.”

Vaughan then added a story of his own about meeting Jagger this year and the wild moment ex-England spinner Phil Tufnell re-enacted his infamous batting display against Shane Warne.

Tufnell, now a renowned commentator in his own right, was given nightmares when he tried to bat against the Australian great. Tufnell once repeatedly fell over in an Ashes match when he tried to defend against Warne’s spin, with the England player clumsily attempting to kick away the ball.

Vaughan said: “I had a funny one in the summer (during) the Ashes. Not to name-drop too much but I was at a garden party with Mick Jagger.

“I had a few bottles – by the way Mick Jagger wasn’t drinking but my good pal Phil Tufnell was.

“He was a few bottles deep and he decided to show Mick Jagger how you face the late great Shane Warne around the wicket.

“But if anyone fancies a bit of a giggle, just go on (the internet) and put ‘Phil Tufnell facing Shane Warne’.

“At 11 o’clock at night, Phil was giving Mick Jagger a demo of how you kick away, kick him around the wicket – and then fall over trying to play it!”
