Emma McKeon is Australia’s best chance to add to its already-bustling medal cabinet at the World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
The Aussies took home three gold medals on Sunday thanks to the success of Ariarne Titmus, Sam Short and the men’s and women’s 4x100m freestyle relay.

Titmus won the women’s 400m freestyle in what was dubbed the ‘race of the century’ and smashed the world record set by teen sensation Summer McIntosh.
Short outswam Tunisia’s Ahmed Hafnaoui in the final 15 metres to take first place in the men’s 400m freestyle final, with fellow Aussie and defending champ Elijah Winnington placing seventh.
The team of Mollie O’Callaghan, Shayna Jack, Meg Harris and Emma McKeon touched the wall in a world record time to finish first in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay ahead of the United States and China.

Australia’s men’s 4x100m freestyle team, featuring Kyle Chalmers, Jack Cartwright, Flynn Southam and Kai Taylor also claimed a gold medal.
McKeon, who is competing for Australia alongside Brianna Throssell in the women’s 100m butterfly final, would love nothing more than to bring home yet another gold for the Aussies.
Interestingly, McKeon is yet to win a gold medal in the women’s 100m backstroke at neither the Olympics or the World Swimming Championships, as she earned a bronze medal in Tokyo.
Even if she doesn’t take home gold, McKeon has a chance to sit alongside Australian swimming royalty Grant Hackett as a medal in Fukuoka would be her 19th at the World Swimming Championships, the equal-most by an Aussie.
The Olympic superstar will start the race from lane six with Throssell in lane one.
Australia will also be represented by 20-year-old Jenna Forrester in the women’s 200m individual medley.
