St Kilda is set to fight Lance Collard’s charge of conduct unbecoming for directing a homophobic slur at a VFL opponent, which was upheld by the AFL Tribunal. Live from 3pm AEST!
Last Friday the Tribunal found Collard had called a Frankston player a “f***ing f*****”, despite the Saints forward signing a statutory declaration and maintaining during the hearing he hadn’t.

Collard claimed he had told Darcy Hipwell “come here, maggot” but both Hipwell and teammate Bailey Lambert were adamant they heard Collard use the slur.
The AFL had wanted a 10-week suspension given this was Collard’s second time being found guilty of homophobic abuse. The Saints will consider appealing the case, depending on the penalty handed down.

“I grabbed (Hipwell) and said, ‘come here, maggot’,” Collard said during last week’s hearing.
“I know they think I’ve said the word f****t, because I’ve said it before, but I admitted it last time when I said it – but I’ve never said it this time.
“I signed an oath (statutory declaration) during the week about it that I’m being one hundred per cent honest. Last time I stood up and admitted it, and took it, I was remorseful … I wouldn’t make the mistake again.”
Separately, the AFL Tribunal is sitting today to determine whether Zak Butters verbally abused an umpire during Gather Round.
