One of Brodie Kostecki’s long-time sponsors and most vocal supporters has lashed out at the Supercars champion after his shock return to Erebus Motorsport.
Kostecki sat out the first two races of the season amid reported tensions with Erebus CEO Barry Ryan and owner Betty Klimenko.
He was replaced by the team’s reserve driver Todd Hazlewood and was not expected to return to Erebus this season – only for the reigning champion to make a shock backflip this week, with the announcement that Kostecki will return to race for Erebus from the next round in Taupo, NZ, from April 19-21.

Boost Mobile founder Peter Adderton, a long-term partner of Kostecki, was one of the fiercest critics of Erebus over their handling of the driver.
That including labelling Erebus ‘arrogant’, their treatment of Kostecki ‘disgraceful’ and pushing them to allow Kostecki to leave the team – even giving away free T-shirts reading ‘Let Brodie Race’ to fans at the season-opener.
Now Adderton has changed his tune, taking aim at Kostecki and claiming the driver had been instructed to remove all Boost Mobile sponsorship from his helmet upon his return to the grid.

Adderton took to social media, writing: “I will always shoot straight.
“For those who are asking, yes, I got a call from Brodie today telling me he was going back to Erebus and one of the conditions was Betty demanded he remove all Boost Mobile Australia and other sponsors who supported him from his helmet.
“We are disappointed and sad, to be honest, after all the years of support we gave Brodie, and felt he would have said no but he clearly didn’t.
“That’s for Brodie to say why, not me. We live and we learn. I guess the ‘Let Brodie Race’ t-shirts worked.”
Adderton didn’t stop there, declaring he had learned a “valuable lesson in loyalty” around people who would “throw you under (the) bus”.

In a separate post, he wrote: “Today, I was taught a valuable lesson in loyalty or lack of it in this instance and how you can be so wrong about people, people you have gone to war for and stood up for and supported for years would simply throw you under [the] bus without giving it a second thought.
“Supercars has, in my opinion, hit an all-time low for me today, and frankly, my interest level has fallen to zero.
“There are always consequences for our actions, this I have learned over the many years, but the call I got today was an all-time low for me.
“I am not mad, I am disappointed in myself for ever believing that people actually care about our support and passion and loyalty, I learned a very valuable lesson so there is that.”
Adderton’s Boost Mobile has long been a major individual backer of Kostecki, while Adderton’s MobileX company sponsored Kostecki’s NASCAR debut last year.
