Richmond VFL has signed key-position prospect Kai Daniels, older brother of Australian NBA star Dyson, to its list on the eve of the 2025 season.
Dyson is currently in the midst of a playoff push with the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks, while younger brother, Dash, is also plying his trade in the professional basketball scene with the NBL’s Melbourne United.
But Kai, after once also aspiring to hoop at the highest level, has made a successful code switch, joining the Tigers’ VFL unit after just recently joining its program in January.

The Tigers confirmed a recent round of VFL signings via Instagram on Wednesday.
Daniels recently told CODE Sports: “I came into the program quite late, so I wasn’t expecting it all.”
The mature-ager, who played local footy last year for Golden Square in the Bendigo Football Netball League, was one of four signings made by the Tigers’ reserves on Wednesday, joining Zane Greenham, Sam Phillips and O’Neill Moncrieff in officially donning the yellow and black.
After revealing official news of the signing, Richmond VFL shared a heartwarming and cheeky congratulatory video message from Dyson.
“I just want to say congrats on making the VFL squad, it’s a huge achievement,” Daniels said from the US.
“I know you worked super hard to get there and I’m proud of you, brother.
“I remember those days in the backyard playing ‘mark is up’ — I was torching you out there, but I’ll let you have your shine, brother.
“Congrats to you, keep working hard, and go Tiges.”
Dyson and his Hawks are into the latter stages of their 2024-25 season, with the six-foot-eight guard still atop the NBA chart for total steals (184) and steals per game (3.0).
Richmond’s reserves open their 2025 account against Coburg on Sunday, March 23 after a 2024 campaign where they finished as a wildcard finalist.
