Tottenham is leading 3-1 in their must-win clash against AZ Alkmaar courtesy of goals from Wilson Odobert and Jamed Maddison.
The Spurs pounced on some sloppy defence in the 26th minute, with Dominic Solanke passing to Odobert who made no mistakes with the finish. The 20-year-old Frenchman missed a large chunk of the season due to a hamstring injury.
Soon after the break, captain Son Heung-min set up the team’s second goal with another excellent finish from Maddison and a trademark celebration.
However, disaster struck for Postecolgou’s men in the 63rd minute when a monumental brain fade in defence gifted Alkmaar their opener, with Peer Koopmeiners the goal-scorer.
Odobert, guilty of lazy defence during Alkmaar’s goal, didn’t have to wait long for redemption, putting away Tottenham’s third goal in the 75th minute following a stylish offensive team effort.
To keep alive their hopes of ending a trophy drought that stretches back to 2008, Tottenham must overturn a 1-0 deficit against the Dutch side.
