MATCH PREVIEW
South Sydney will be out to maintain their unbeaten start to the new season when they travel to Wollongong to take on old rivals the Dragons at WIN Stadium.
Tyrell Sloan earns a recall via the wing with Mat Feagai dropping to 18th man. Blake Lawrie starts at prop with Toby Couchman shifting to the bench. Souths are 1-17.
Two Dragons recruits who will no doubt be up and about for this clash will be former Rabbitohs Damien Cook and Lachlan Ilias, with both players were essentially forced out of Souths.
While Ilias and Cook faced their former side in the Charity Shield during the Pre-Season Challenge, the halfback says
“It was good to get the Charity Shield out of the way, but this is the one that matters so we are looking forward to it,” Ihe toldNRL.com.
“There will be a lot of rubbish talking on the field and a lot of fun and games, but it’s time for us to lock in and get the two points.
While the Bunnies were able to record a gritty Round 1 win over the Dolphins, the Dragons’ inconsistency cost them in a loss against the Bulldogs.
Despite the loss, there was plenty that Shane Flanagan’s new-look side can build on.
Souths will be without star centre Jack Wighton for this game (suspension). He’s been replaced in the starting side by Fletcher Myers.
Promising young Dragon Ryan Couchman suffered an ACL tear in the season opener. Prop Blake Lawrie takes Couchman’s place in the 17.
The Dragons signed prop David Klemmer during the week but he isn’t expected to make his club debut until Round 4.
