Australia’s Senna Agius has claimed a brilliant first Moto2 race victory, passing two riders in the final corners to win at Silverstone.
The 19-year-old from Sydney was on track for his fourth podium finish in just under a season, running third behind Aron Canet and David Alonso in the final stages of the British Grand Prix.
But the two front-runners went deep into one of the final corners allowing Agius to dive up the inside and hit the lead.

He then powered home to claim a thrilling maiden win in the category just below MotoGP.
“We said didn’t we that Agius could still win this, and he does! The Aussie absolutely delirious!” the lead commentator said.
“A MotoGP race for the ages.”
The win leaves Agius sixth in the riders’ standings, with title leader Manuel Gonzalez and fellow contender Barry Baltus both retiring from the race.
“How good? I honestly can’t believe it,” Agius said.
“I battled so hard during the race and I always get passed on the straight, and I couldn’t pass in sector one, and I couldn’t quite get a good enough drive out of two, so I was thinking I need to pass and get a gap for the straight. But I always made my moves two corners before the straight so someone would pass me back.
“I thought I’d try to get a podium, when Alonso went for Aron, I saw Aron square him up and I went this is gonna go bad, so I waited and let the brake off and I couldn’t believe it.
“All my family are watching back home, I wish they were here to celebrate with me, it hasn’t sunk in yet. Grand prix winner, sounds pretty f***ing good to me mate!”
