The Roos announced Brewer’s signing on Thursday.
The 195-centimetre 20-year-old, who hails from Tasmania, played college basketball for Sacramento State and Idaho State University.
Brewer has ties to Kangaroos rebounder Colby McKercher, with the Launceston Junior Football Club product having represented Tasmania at the under-12s level alongside the left-footer.
“We are really pleased to welcome Lachy to the club and give him the opportunity to bring those elite attributes back onto the footy field,” list boss Brady Rawlings said.
“Lachy has spent the last few years in a high-pressure college environment in the US, so we have no doubt he will bring a high level of professionalism to our young group.
“We believe his physical profile, combined with his previous football background, gives him a great platform to develop within our system at Arden Street.”
‘TIGHTENED HIS LEASH’: HAWKS COACH ON GINNI’S TACTIC TALK
Polarising Hawthorn forward Jack Ginnivan might be a bit more tight-lipped the next time he’s asked for tactical input on a podcast.
Coach Sam Mitchell reined in Ginnivan after he spoke openly about the Hawks’ tactical mindset in certain game situations on the Titch & Ginni Show with former AFL star Tom Mitchell.
Discussing Carlton’s play last season with Mitchell, Ginnivan explained how teams such as the Hawks might’ve taken advantage of the Blues.
“If they win it, and they do go long into the forward 50, let’s just say Hawthorn, on the outside, are ready to bang to the open side, and Carlton might be stuck skinny,” he said on the podcast, pointing at a whiteboard with magnets.
“Jack, for all the bravado that you see, he is a real footy head. He loves footy, he loves watching it, he loves dissecting it,” Mitchell told media in his weekly press conference.
“I use him on gameday regularly for tactics on how we want to go about different parts of our game.
“We’ve got to help him toe the line on ‘how much of our plans do you need to actually give, Jack?’ So, I just tightened his leash a little bit … make sure he’s giving away something to keep the fans interested, but not so much that he can help opposition teams beat us.
“He gave me a cheeky smile (when I approached him to discuss it) and nodded his head like ‘I know exactly what you’re talking about, coach’.”
Hawthorn goes into Thursday night’s blockbuster MCG bout with Sydney as favourites, with superstar Swans Errol Gulden and Isaac Heeney absent due to injury.
