It’s no secret that Penrith are facing a massive battle to retain several of their stars with Martin, Isaah Yeo, Nathan Cleary, Brian To’o, Mitch Kenny, Moses Leota and others all November 1 guys given their current contracts runs until the end of 2027.
Martin has been linked to potentially following former teammate Jarome Luai to the PNG Chiefs, who enter the comp in 2028.
Naturally, some of his teammates have also been linked to PNG given they come off contract right before the Chiefs’ inaugural season.
Without confirming they definitely will, Cleary and Yeo have been on record stating that testing the market is something that interests them as well.
The Chiefs will likely be able to offer Martin more money due to their ability to register tax-free contracts, but there are set to be several teams interested in Martin’s services.
The Blues and Panthers star would like to stay put according to Code Sports, but he’s also open to joining the Chiefs.
“It’s not out of the question. It’s definitely of interest,” Martin said.
“Being part of something new and like, how much they love football, it’s incredible. And obviously Jarome going, it sort of opens the doors for a lot of people.
“I’ve discussed it with my partner and everything. Obviously would need a lot more details about it, but we certainly found it interesting.”
