Former LSU receiver declared for NFL draft two days after alleged involvement in fatal car crash

Former LSU star wide receiver Kyren Lacy is wanted on charges of negligent homicide and felony hit-and-run, WAFB Louisiana reported.

Louisiana State Police issued the arrest warrant in response to a car crash Lacy allegedly caused on Dec. 27 that killed a former U.S. Marine and injured two others.

Authorities have communicated with Lacy, 24, and his lawyer that he should turn himself in, per ESPN.

Officers who responded to the crash allege that Lacy was driving on Louisiana Highway 20 when he began crossing the centerline, driving against oncoming traffic, in an attempt to pass slower vehicles.

Driving south in the northbound lane, Lacy forced the driver of a pickup truck to abruptly break and swerve in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision.

The pickup truck driver swerved to the right, but a second driver — this one behind the wheel of a Kia — swerved left and across the centerline.

There, the driver collided head-on with another vehicle.

Lacy reportedly drove around the crash scene and then fled south. He did not stop, did not call emergency services or report his involvement in the accident to the authorities, per WAFB.

A passenger — former Marine Herman Hall — was critically injured in the crash.

Authorities rushed Hall, 78, to the hospital but were not able to save his life.

On Friday, Alliance Sports, which represents Lacy, released a statement about the case.

“We are aware of the allegations that have been made regarding Kyren Lacy, and we want to take this opportunity to address them,” the statement read.

“First and foremost, Kyren is fully cooperating with the authorities. We strongly believe that the facts will ultimately demonstrate the truth, but we respect the need for a full and thorough investigation.

“We recognise the concern and questions that may arise from these recent allegations. To anyone impacted, directly or indirectly, we want to assure that this matter is being taken very seriously, and we are committed to resolving it responsibly.”

Lacy declared for the 2025 NFL Draft just two days after the crash.

“LSU has truly made a big impact on my life on and off the field these past three years,” Lacy had written on Instagram.

“Playing in Death Valley, for the best fans in the country, was an experience I will never forget. Not too many people get to fulfill a dream like this. I am forever grateful for it.

“I want to express my appreciation to all my coaches, support staff, and trainers for helping develop me as a football player, but most importantly as a person. Although we didn’t accomplish our goal of winning a national championship, I promise to take all of those life lessons with me in the next chapter of my life.”

During the 2024 season, Lacy led the team in touchdowns (9) and placed second in both catches (58) and receiving yards (866).
