A Melbourne tall has made it clear where he’d like to be playing footy – even if a deal isn’t possible in the near future.

Plus Hawthorn’s massive deadline day is scary to even think about.

‘TOUGH AT TIMES’ — DEMON’S CLEAR MESSAGE ABOUT TRADE HOME

Melbourne’s Harrison Petty has heavily hinted he’s seeking a move back to Adelaide, as the Demons maintain they will not trade the forward this year.

Petty conceded on Tuesday he explored a move to the Crows this trade period, which comes as Adelaide list boss Justin Reid said the deal is not yet dead.

“Not to say things won’t change in the next 24 hours, but highly unlikely,” Reid said on Trade Radio.

Petty played golf in Adelaide on Tuesday alongside Crows Darcy Fogarty and Mitch Hinge. He is good friends with Fogarty who he went to boarding school with.

A five-year deal worth around $800,000 a year is reportedly on the table for Petty and the premiership player conceded the draw of returning home is strong.

“The decision has kind of been made now by Melbourne, which I’m totally fine with, I’m happy I’m on an AFL list still,” Petty told Nine Adelaide.

“I suppose at some stage I’d be open to a move back (home)… it is tough at times but my family are lucky enough, they can come over and see me a bit there. It is tough at times though.”

The Demons believe he and Jacob Van Rooyen are their key forward pairing of the future and, given Petty is contracted until the end of 2025, will do everything in their power to keep him.

What price for Pie Ginnivan? | 02:11

SIX DEALS ON HAWKS’ PLATE FOR DEADLINE DAY

Hawthorn looms as the busiest club on the final day of the 2023 trade period with as many as six deals to complete on Wednesday.

The most notable is now Jack Ginnivan, the Collingwood forward who was pushed by the club to seek options elsewhere, in a move likely to revolve around the Hawks’ future second-round pick.

Ginnivan was a childhood Hawthorn fan and wears No.33 because of his love for Cyril Rioli; a number that is now available at Waverley Park after the departure of Tyler Brockman to West Coast.

But the Hawks must also make a deal for forward Mabior Chol from Gold Coast, and the Suns are keen for a future second-round pick in return for the ex-Tiger.

To get that pick the Hawks may need to loosen their grip on another forward, mid-season rookie pick-up Brandon Ryan, for whom Brisbane is offering a future second-round pick.

The Hawks would prefer to send a future third-round pick for Chol, either their own or Richmond’s, which they would like to receive in Jacob Koschitzke’s looming move to Punt Road.

To finish off the forward line makeover the Hawks could reunite with Jack Gunston who is keen on a return after a year at the Lions. He could be involved in a Ryan deal.

Finally Sam Mitchell’s team is looking to land Essendon running defender Massimo D’Ambrosio, though they could also pick him up as a delisted free agent because of the rules around rookies and contracts in their third year.
