With the Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) closing this Friday, James Van Es, Sandy Brock and Jack Henderson are vying for the two list spots currently available under new coach Andrew McQualter for 2025.
Van Es (St Kilda) and Brock (Gold Coast) have each been drafted into the AFL system before, with neither playing a senior game in the two and three years they were on a list respectively. Henderson however, is a 24-year-old mature prospect from Werribee with a strong inside game that differs from his defending counterparts.
Flying out west for the three 25-minute periods are Richmond, who are hopeful of integrating their plethora of young players into the system as quickly and effectively as possible. And while expectations are as low as they have been at Punt Road for a long time, three-time Richmond premiership player Jack Riewoldt is still hopeful this year will be one of a different kind of success.
Speaking to the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph, the Fox Footy expert rubbished claims his former club would go the 2025 season without a win.
“I’ve heard stories of them not winning a game, which is a lot of crap,” Riewoldt said.
“History tells us if you have a plan and invest in the draft, and I am looking directly at the Hawthorn model right now, then you can bounce back quicker than if you don’t make the hard decisions. That’s where I see Richmond at the moment.”
The first bounce at West Coast’s facility will take place at 12:30pm AEDT (9:30am local time), which you can watch live on Kayo.
