Some of Aussie cricket’s greatest players have received huge honours at the end of their career – but this would rank highest among them all.
Literally.
Adam Gilchrist is pushing for retiring Melbourne Renegades and Aussie white-ball stalwart Aaron Finch to be honoured at the club’s home ground, Marvel Stadium, via the roof itself.
Finch famously was the first player to hit the roof during his stellar career with the Renegades, leading to a discussion between Gilchrist, Glenn Maxwell and Michael Vaughan during the Strikers-Hurricanes clash on Tuesday night.

They were puzzled by the fact the roof is already named Ralph – there’s even a Twitter account for him – and after moving on from the idea of naming the roof Finchy, Gilly had a bright idea.
“Get it painted, on the roof,” he said.
Maxwell chipped in: “Maybe just a mural of his head?
Gilchrist replied: “That splits in half when it opens!”
Finch himself, on commentary for Fox Cricket’s coverage of Heat vs Scorchers a night later, wasn’t a fan of the discussion.
“It’s ridiculous. We’re about to watch a beautiful Big Bash game and we’re talking about my head on a roof!” he said.
But with a night to sleep on the idea, Gilchrist took it a step further.
“I’ve had a rethink overnight. And I hope it’s appropriate,” he said.
“Maybe not your head; because you batted so well there and so often so many runs, you’d often see the back of you, especially from a wicketkeeper’s point of view. You’d always see someone’s behind.
“So I thought maybe your backside could be painted on the roof, and then when the roof is opened up and the sunshine shines through…”
But Finch interrupted to quip: “I’m not sure there’s enough space for it!”
Apparently the hashtag is #AaronFinchRoof. Or #CheekyFinchy.
Let’s get them trending.
